Mission Statement, History and Description

The UVic Submarine Racing Club (UVSRC), founded in September 2017, is a student run group that provides students with hands on exposure to underwater marine engineering systems. The main goal of the UVSRC is to design, build, and race a human-powered submarine at the annual International Submarine Races. However, that is not the only goal of the UVSRC. What the UVSRC wants to accomplish overall is the exposure of engineering students to the field of Marine Systems Engineering (MSE), as well as any other design and manufacturing oriented fields. The UVSRC believes that it is essential to create a network between future sponsors, employers, and students in the club for future work opportunities, thus allowing members to orient their careers towards their field of interest.

Submarine Design

The UVSRC is split into the following five different sections: hull design, propulsion system, steering-control system, stability-buoyancy system, and safety release system. Each section contains a number of challenges and constraints that promote students to troubleshoot and design their systems with the goal of increasing efficiency and implementing innovative ideas.
